Which MAINFRAME Kit Should I Get?

There are a lot different ways of making a MAINFRAME setup, and if you’ve played around with these types of LEDs before, then you can get pieces individually. Otherwise I can understand the number of components and options can be daunting.

If you’re new I suggest you look at our starter kits, because they have everything you need to get started. They are all pretty similar, the biggest difference is the type of LED that it comes with.

These individually addressable LEDs are pretty versatile and come in a few different form factors, and depending on what you want to do with them, you can pick yourself.

  • LED strips -> There are multiple types. I will have multiple strips, 1m 144 LEDs/m, 2m 60 LEDs/m and 5m
  • Grids -> Three grids, 16x16, 8x32 and 2x 8x8.
  • Christmas lights
  • Rings
  • Eventually there will be custom LED fixtures, such as LED cubes.

Something to note is that these different LED form factors are all interchangeable, so you can always buy a kit just to get started. After some experimentation, you can get yourself a different LED type later on once you try out MAINFRAME and perhaps get new ideas on how you want to integrate the LEDs into your space or live performance.

You might be asking yourself: “I have LED strips at home, can I use those?” The answer is: maybe. If the strips are non-addressable, meaning they can only all light up a single color, then no, not yet. I plan to release an adapter so by the time you watch this video, I might have it available. Otherwise, MAINFRAME-B is only compatible with WS2812b type LEDs, which are 5V. You can also check to see if the LED connector is the same as this one. If you’re not sure then I suggest you get yourself a kit with an LED form factor of your choice, then once you get your kit you can try it out with your pre-existing LED strips.
